But Julianne Moore looked a far cry from her dowdy alter ego on Monday.

The 53-year-old actress wowed in a plunging black sequined dress at the Los Angeles premiere of the third installment in the dystopian franchise.

The flamed hair beauty looked stunning in a shimmery fringe frock that showed off her cleavage with a deep neckline.

Julianne parted her loose curls down the middle and vamped up her makeup with a smokey eyeshadow and liner.

The mother-of-two made the dress the statement piece by keeping her accessories minimal, opting for metallic stud earrings and a ring on each hand.

Based on the bestselling young adult novels by author Suzanne Collins, Julianne's character Alma Coin looks nothing like the glamorous actress.

In the book series, the leader of the rebellion forces is described by heroine Katniss Everdeen as looking like 'all the color was sucked away,' with grey hair, pale eyes and frigid hair.

The Emmy Award winning star certainly brought lots of sparkle to the film's premiere.

In a new interview for More magazine, Julianne shared that ever since she became a fan of the novels, she knew she was destined to play the part of the ruthless District 13 ruler.

Her children, Caleb, 16, and Liv, 12, were also excited that they would be seeing their mother in a movie they could actually watch. The actress said: 'Most of the films I make are not for kids.

'My son was in line for the midnight show when The Hunger Games first came out. They both loved the books. For them, my being in Mockingjay was fairly meaningful.'

Mockingjay, Part 1's director Francis Lawrence said of the star: 'She let it be known through the studio and her agent that she was interested, which was exciting,' before adding that she brought 'an intelligence and an inner life.'

In the upcoming movie, Julianne stars alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Natalie Dormer, Woody Harrelson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

It will be released in US theatres on November 21.
