We are always looking to Olivia Palermo for style inspiration. If we could bottle up her effortless beauty, her ability to pair the high and the low, well, we’d be street-chic every day.

Thanks to a new collaboration Palermo is doing with Pinterest, we may be in luck. Beginning today, users will be able to follow Palermo’s fashion month through various boards, all aimed at making fashion week a little more accessible.

“Runway fashion gives us inspiration for what’s new and possible when it comes to creating our own individual styles,” Palermo says. “Pinning is a great way to visualize your take on runway looks. I hope Pinners from around the world can incorporate fashion trends from New York, London, and Paris into their closets this season.”

We caught up with Palermo at the Soho Grand Hotel in between shows to find out all about how she uses Pinterest and what goes into making the perfect board.

So, you're a Pinner. What is it that you love about it?

I love that you can go there and look for any type of inspiration. They have everything you’re looking for, whether it’s fashion related or not. You start looking at one picture, and you end up in all these different places. You get lost!

I know that a lot of people make boards to plan their weddings. Did you use it for your wedding at all?

No, I didn’t. But down the road, for a party, [I would]. I have referenced [pictures of] colors, floral arrangements: I’m big into flowers.

What sort of boards do you love creating? Other than fashion, of course!

Makeup is always something I love to stress. It’s equally as important as any accessory. I always have a mood board that I can reference for that.

What are some of your tips on how to create the perfect mood board?

It can include anything and everything! I think a great way to start is to look at backstage images from your favorite designer’s show. [Designers] have a huge mood board they use for their collections. Maybe it’s architecture, maybe it’s swatches of paint. It doesn’t have to be fashion related. Sometimes I’ll take screenshots! Like, if I’m watching TV, I’ll pause the TiVo and I’ll take a picture of the color palette of something. It’s great because when you’re trying to reference something and explain the exact color, it’s on my phone.

And what have you been inspired by that you’ve seen this week? Maybe some hints as to what you’ll be including on some of your boards?

I just came from Delpozo, and it was amazing. It’s one of my highlights. I loved Tibi. I loved the off-the-shoulder shirt in the crisp white and the turquoise. It’s wearable. Basically, every day I wear Tibi silk tanks as undershirts. It’s for every girl.
